Indoor Pool

My wife loves swimming. I don't know if I have ever told anyone this or not. However, I never thought that she loved it as much as I found out on Friday.

I get a call at work at 4:20 in the afternoon. It was my wife. She was yelling that the toilet backed up and was running in to the dining room.

Knowing that the way to solve the problem was to turn off the toilet and lay down some towels, I tried to tell her this, and we got off the phone.

About 10 minutes later, I got a return phone call. However, this time, in the background, I could hear the sound of running water.

Me: What is that?

Mags: It is our basement. Our pipe is busted. Our basement is flooding. The valve is broken, and the water can't be turned off.

So off I go running out of my office early, not done with all of my work. Rushing to get home before the water level hits the first floor.

On the ay, I make a few phone calls to friends to get them to my home to shut the water off at the water meter. I am speeding home trying to get home fast. I received a call from a friend who told me he was at my house, and the water district had already been notified.

As I finally made it home about 30 minutes later, I immediately lifted the lid off of the water meter pit, and turned the water off.

Unfortunately for my wife, we have a working drain in our basement. The water went to the drain without causing too much damage. A piece of carpet had to be thrown away, as did some boxes that we had. Luckily the items in the boxes were not damaged.

No skinny dipping for us this weekend.
